So guess what?! Yesterday I went to see the UNBELIEVABLE, INEFFABLE, ABSOLUTELY FANTASTICAL HUEY LEWIS AND THE NEWS!!!
And I'm still pretty much floating on cloud nine!
Words can't even begin to describe how great of an experience it was. I tend to mentally separate music into two main categories- metal and non-metal. I think I do this because I feel like it's fairly easy for a self-proclaimed metalhead to be turned on and tuned into many, many other genres of music and thoroughly enjoy them, but that it's harder for those that don't necessarily identify as metalheads to enjoy any rock or metal. That's just my view from my personal experiences. So my point is that, when I talk about my favorite bands, I tend to say one band is my favorite metal band, and another band is just my favorite band. It clears up confusion, makes conversation with acquaintances easier, because you can just show them a specific side of you if you're feeling judged...etc.
As it is, Huey Lewis and the News are my favorite band. Ever. Just...wow. I've been a fan forever, and I never, ever get tired of their music. But, interestingly enough, I had more good, clean fun at their show last night than at ANY show, in any genre, that I've ever been to. I think I might actually have to put it above Metallica and Dethklok on my "super fun" scale. There was just something about the atmosphere. I didn't feel threatened, I didn't feel smaller than anyone else and in need of making up for it, I was just joyful. The whole time.
Also, y'know, being in the 2nd row less than four feet from the stage the whole night kind of helps.
Anyway, it was mindblowing. Here's a link to some vlog-style footage of the show another concert-goer uploaded- Huey and the band start at the 4 minute mark. I didn't bother to get any shots or footage, but around the 12 minute mark you can actually see me.
See? There I am!
So there that! Man, I wish I could afford to see them in Hampton on the 22nd, but unfortunately I'm Workin' for a Livin' and I'm totally broke. Siiigh. Oh well. I'll catch 'em again sometime soon!
Anyone else been to see them?
